The Show Must Go On

An interactive documentary telling the stories and experiences of four
street and circus performers of performance collective Steamship Circus.

OVERVIEW

Inspired by my experiences witnessing buskers and street performers in London, The Show Must Go On is an interactive documentary piece I directed sharing the stories and experiences of one of Bournemouth’s most beloved performance groups: Steamship Circus.

CREATIVE

Leading a team of six crew members, I conducted interviews with four members of Steamship Circus and directed shoots of a variety of different performances, including poi, hoola-hooping, pyrotechnics and costuming. The goal of this project was to not only highlight the spectacular creativity of these talented performers, but to share the personal stories that inspire their performances. Furthermore, the documentary was driven by a vital call to action: to oppose a Public Spaces Protection Order proposed by Bournemouth Council which would prohibit busking and performance in the town centre.

Below are excerpts from the edited interviews with two of our contributors.
